The EURASHE Annual Conference will be held prior to the Bologna Ministerial conference in Paris, which might open the discussion on developments of European higher education after 2020. Higher education landscape has been changing over the past decades, enhanced access and entry of new groups of students, changing patterns of learning within the life-long learning concept, growing expectations towards openness of higher education institutions and their engagement within their community, collaboration with various partners including the world of work, technological changes and societal patterns, increasing attention to accountability and the impact of various activities of higher education institutions, emphasis on balancing professional aspects with education and development for active citizenship and democracy – all these factors play important role in determining specific mission and tasks of professional higher education.

The conference will therefore attempt to have a complex and thorough look at the role of professional higher education within the diversified higher education systems, discuss the expectations of stakeholders and their engagement, specific mission and role of universities of applied sciences and their service to the society. While the theme is rather broad a few key tracks are preliminarily envisaged as guiding lines for potential contributions on innovative and inspiring approaches:

  • Mission, role and concept of universities of applied sciences, impact and accountability, promotion within society, strategic partnership with stakeholders and their expectations
  • Innovative teaching and learning within professional higher education, issues of work based learning, recognition, relevant staff qualifications and development, engagement of stakeholders
  • Role of universities of applied sciences in research, development and innovation, engagement in regional development in collaboration with world of work and other stakeholders

In September 2017 EURASHE will be opening the registrations as well as the call for contributions. Please follow EURASHE website and communication channels for more news in the early September.
